“Program Intern - Student Facilitator” Part Time/Unpaid (Spring 2026)

Internship Opportunity:
The Program Intern-Student Facilitator will assist in various areas of the Girls Inc. afterschool program in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District. This unpaid position is on-site at our West and /or South Los Angeles schools. Interns will be required to travel to their school site for a minimum of 3 hours per afternoon, twice a week. Interns will learn about program facilitation, classroom management, and program engagement in subjects related to STEM and the arts.
Interns must be available to travel to West and/or South Los Angeles throughout the semester internship.
Responsibilities: To provide programming facilitation and classroom management strategies in the Girls Inc. program, which assists girls with:
exploring their mental, emotional, and physical health
academic achievement
increasing resilience and autonomy
discovering and nurturing an interest in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math
living productive and fulfilling lives
Internship Duties:
Observes assigned Lead Facilitator for classroom management and youth engagement strategies
Plans, tailors, and facilitates effective Girls Inc. program lessons for groups of 10-25 girls
Supports program administrative tasks including, but not limited to, taking and inputting attendance, administering pre- and post-evaluations, etc.
Establishes a positive rapport with Girls Inc. and site-based stakeholders
Engages with program participant families (calls home, program pick-up, etc.)
Works with the Program Services Director to create and facilitate a lesson that aligns with the Girls Inc. Strong, Smart, and Bold values
Debriefs with the Program Site Supervisor weekly
Meets with the Chief Program Officer monthly to share and hear feedback on their experience
Participates in and contributes to Girls Inc. meetings and trainings
Adheres to program site policies and procedures
Acts in accord with the Girls Inc. purpose, policies, and goals, representing Girls Inc. positively and respectfully in all Girls Inc., community, and service site spaces
Performs other duties as requested and agreed upon.
Qualifications:
Reliable transportation to the internship site
Ability to pass a standard background check
Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience working with youth/teens in a group setting
Ability to demonstrate and facilitate various age-appropriate activities with girls ages 6 – 14
Currently enrolled in an Associate/Bachelor’s/Master’s program (preference in Social Sciences; i.e. Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Women’s Studies, Education, Public Health or another related field)
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
Time Commitment:
Hours Required: Minimum of 6 hours per week, primarily afternoon hours
